FAQ's

Does HOTEC install PV systems?

Yes we do! were amped up and ready to provide you with your own PV system, call today to set up an appointment!

How much does it cost?

The average installation cost for a solar array in central Texas ranges between $2.50-$3.25 a Watt.  Solar arrays are sized by kW output, which is the wattage multiplied by 1000. For example a 10kW system installed at $2.50 a watt would be valued at $25,000.

What size system do I need for my home?

Please contact HOTEC, for your annual usage and additional questions. (DG email)

What is HOTEC's Buyback Policy?

HOTEC has now moved to only an avoided cost model. Net metering will no longer be available to future installations. currently our avoided cost buyback rate is 4.81 cents per kWh overproduced onto HOTEC's distribution grid.

Am I required to notify HOTEC of my DG installation?

The answer is yes!

Any DG interconnection with HOTEC's grid requires permission via application, and interconnection process. Failure to do so could result in injury to line crew personnel and or HOTEC equipment. Improper connection to HOTEC's grid will also prevent the member from benefitting from production payback of the DG system.

Will a solar array provide power during an outage?

No,

Standard residential solar installations without battery back up are programmed to shut down during outages for safety reasons. Battery back up systems are available but in most cases do not prove to be economical.
