Journeyman Lineman

Are you looking for a new career? We have an exciting job opportunity for you at the Heart of Texas of Electric Co-op. We are looking to hire a Journeyman Lineman who will work out of our McGregor location.

What would a typical day look like? Here is what we are looking for:

Heart of Texas Electrical Cooperative is looking for a full time Journeyman lineman to perform line work in the operation, maintenance, construction, and repair of HOTEC overhead and underground electrical systems.

The ideal candidate should have a thorough understanding of all construction specifications and safety rules and regulations.

Essential Duties:

  • Perform line construction, maintenance, and power restoration with the use of line tools and equipment
  • Install, maintain, and remove multi-phase overhead and underground transformers
  • Install, maintain, remove, and troubleshoot reclosers, voltage regulators and capacitors
  • Understand overcurrent protection, coordination, fault current and fusing
  • Understand multi-phase and primary metering including relevant calculations
  • Operate digger derrick, bucket truck, forklift, pole trailer and other equipment as needed

Abilities and Skills:

  • Communication Skills - Employees should have effective verbal and written communication skills with co-workers and members
  • Leadership Skills - Team leader responsibilities include leading by example, training lower class apprentices and contributing to team and cooperative goals. Journeymen Linemen are expected to demonstrate knowledge and competence and hold themselves to the highest ethical standard
  • Analytical Skills - Problem solving, decision making and good judgement while managing multiple tasks simultaneously. Technical knowledge, policy adherence and troubleshooting
  • Computer Skills - Use and understand work process software, PC and iPad

Position Requirements:

  • Within 90 days of hire new employee must reside within 30 minutes of McGregor or Rosebud cooperative office depending upon assignment
  • 7-10 years of lineman experience
  • Valid Class A CDL and DOT medical card
  • Pole top, bucket truck rescue certification
  • Successful completion of HOTEC Journeyman Lineman test with verbal/written and field demonstrations
